2023 FLY OLYMPIA

The second edition of the street pole vault event “Fly Olympia” was held successfully on Sunday, June 18 2023 in Ancient Olympia.


A lot of great pole vaulters joined the competition, alongside the home star and host of the event, Emmanouil Karalis. The competition was tense and with a lot of great marks as all the athletes tried to jump really high, in front of an amazing crowd. 

The bar was first set at 5.26m. and Robert Renner (Slovenia) plus Ioannis Rizos (Greece) got over it easily. Polish star, Pawel Wojciechowski, Rizos, Ben Broeders (Belgium), Clayton Fritsch (USA) and Emmanouil Karalis (Greece) had no problem jumping over 5.46m. while Renner had three fouls. Jacob Wooten (USA), Claudio Stecchi (Italy) and Ethan Cormont (France) got over it too. At 5.61m. Cormont and Rizos failed to jump over it and concluded their appearance but all the others plus the French Thibaut Collet, who started at 5.61m., continued with successful jumps at this height.

The bar went up to 5.71m, Karalis passed this height as well  as Collet, Fritsch, Wooten and Stecchi got over it and all of them set a new MR. Wojciechowski had three fouls and Broeders had two and then one more at 5.76m. 

Karalis jumper over 5.76m., setting a new MR and a SB. The other four athletes didn’t try this height and went straight to 5.81m. Stecchi, after one foul, pulled out the competition with a minor discomfort on his legs while Wooten and Fritsch didn’t manage to get over it. Collet got over the bar and celebrated a new MR. Karalis didn’t try 5.81m.. The French and the Greek continued to 5.86m. but none of them had successful jumps. Thibaut collet was eventually the winner with 5.81m. (=SB) and MR while Emmanuil Karalis was second with 5.76m. and SB. Clayton Fritsch claimed third spot with 5.71m.
