ABOUT THE EVENT
On Sunday 16 June 2024, top pole vault athletes from all over the world will gather in the courtyard of the Panathenaic Stadium for the international street pole vault event "FLY ATHENS".
The street pole vault event FLY ATHENS, which is organized by the Greek pole vault champion Emmanuel Karalis, will be transferred from Ancient Olympia to the courtyard of the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro). Hosting the competition in this historic stadium is a dream that's coming true for the event's inspirer and organiser, Emmanuel Karalis, as the venue is where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896.
The pole vault bronze world indoor medallist, who was also 4th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, will welcome his fellow pole vaulters and friends from all around the world and together they will offer a spectacle to the audience of Athens, outside a historic venue.
The "FLY ATHENS" Street pole vault event, which will be held for the third consecutive time, is one of the most impressive pole vault competitions internationally as it belongs to the elite category and brings together top names in the sport every year.
This meeting is part of the Continental tour and is in the SILVER category, the highest possible category the competition could be in as it is a special meeting as it has only one event. However, the competition offers enough ranking points to the participants and thus Fly Athens can be an opportunity to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The competition is co-organized by the Municipality of Athens and the Olympiacos SFP club and is being held under the auspices of the World Athletics, the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the Hellenic Athletics Federation(SEGAS), the Ministry of Culture and the Hellenic Organisation of Tourism (EOT).
